Anthotype & Chlorophyll Prints
Anthotype prints are created from juice extracted from the petals of flowers, the peel from fruits and pigments from plants. The surface is coated with an emulsion made from natural sources and then exposed to sun for a few days, weeks or even months! I tend to use pigments according to the season - berries in the summer, flower petals in springtime, leaves in autumn, fruit peel in winter.
Chlorophyll printing works by bleaching the pigments chlorophyll and carotenoids in leaves. Chlorophyll creates the green colour in plants and the main pigment in photosynthesis. Carotenoids create the yellow, orange, and red colours in plants and vegetables. Exposing leaves to UV light, changes the pigment of the exposed areas from green to yellow/ orange/red.
